For Long we’ve waited for democracy to prevail in party primaries and general election but as things are, democracy is a distant dream here in Kenya. All we see is “More Crisis” instead of “Democracy”. The just concluded party nominations in both NASA and JUBILEE camp respectively is a clear indication of how things are likely to turn in the 8th August 2017 general election. ODM party and JUBILEE experienced chaos during the party primaries as reports of death were heard in both camps in Mathare Constituency. ODM party which is under NASA was supposed to have its nominations in Nairobi on 25th of April 2017 and as people were on ques waiting to nominate candidates of their choice, a message came that the nominations were pushed forward till sunday(30th April 2017) due to unknown reasons. In Mathare Constituency Mabatini Ward, People walked out enraged and some aspirants could be seen complaining how they’ve spent a lot of time campaigning only to be disappointed the last minute. Mathare Constituency consists of six wards: Mlango Kubwa Ward, Hospital Ward, Mabatini Ward, Ngei Ward, Huruma Ward and Kiamaiko Ward. All the seating MCA’s (Members of County Assembly) in the five wards were defeated in the nominations apart from Mabatini Ward which is yet to receive the final say from the party head office. And so we ask do you thinks Kenyans are mature enough to conduct free and fair elections? What is it that can be done to improve the level of democracy in Kenya?
